R v Blankenburg, 2010 YKTC 95

Trial of and conviction of Blankenberg. Two families had been camping near Rose Lake. One family brought a dog which they let wander freely around the campsite. The Blankenbergs, who were on the adjacent campsite, began preparing dinner. Blankenberg claims that the neighbour’s dog came running toward him and he felt the dog was going to attack him. He picked up his shotgun and pointed it at the dog, and the dog stopped approaching when Blankenberg yelled at them. Blankenberg approached the neighbours and threatened to shoot the dog if it came back to try to steal his meat for dinner.

Blankenberg was convicted of uttering threats to kill the dog, and pointing the shotgun at the victim.
